Vintage University of Virginia Bicentennial Plate by Wedgwood.
This plate is part of a series commissioned in the 1940s and is titled "Pavilion IX"
The plate is a creamy white with a raised relief around the rim highlighting special architectural features of the Pavilion, A bust of Thomas Jefferson (the founder of the University), and the University seal. The centre of the plate offers a classic view of the Pavilion in shades of blue ringed by a deep blue swirl pattern that serves as a frame for the building.The back is marked "University of Virginia Pavilion IX", a cartouche of Thomas Jefferson's signature. "Bicentennial Edition 1743-1943", the Wedgwood makers mark, the Jones, the McDuffie & Stratton seal as official importers of Wedgwood commemorative plates, and the impressed seal of Wedgwood. This is an export reject and is marked as such.
It has two small brown blemishes on the front (as seen in picture), but has no visible chips or cracks.
