A first (and only) edition of Extracts From An Officer's Diary 1914-1918: Being the Story of the 15th & 16th Service Battalions, The Cheshire Regiment. Written by Lt. Col. Harrison Johnstone, D.S.O. and published privately by Geo. Falkner & Sons, Manchester in 1919. The diary depicts the author's time as a company commander and later in command of the 35th Division in France and Flanders and includes his experiences in the Somme and Arras offensives. Cardboard covers with black lettering to front and a cloth spine. 156 pp., measuring 14cm x 22.5cm.
This appears to be either a review or gift copy; the book is accompanied by a separate printed note from the author to the original owner. A very rare book today.
In good to very good condition. The hard covers are a little stained, bumped and faded and, as expected, the book block is soiled. However, the binding is tight and the pages are only lightly tanned with no foxing. The text is clear throughout.
