Catawiki’s goal is to make special objects universally available. Our weekly auctions feature thousands of unusual, rare, and exceptional objects you won’t find in just any store. The Chevrolet pickup was converted from a coal truck to a Gypsy Airstream camper. You can take the large attachment tent, bicycles/scooters and/or chairs with you in the accompanying trailer.
The chrome on this classic really shines and it is exuberantly coloured, without loosing any of its efficiency. It is therefore the mobile dream for fans of show trucks.
This Gypsy Airstream is a unique vehicle and cannot be pigeonholed. You can’t picture the truck without photos and with text only. We are therefore limiting this text to facts. If interested, we will pull out all the stops during an extensive viewing and explanation.
Engine / technical:
The original engine was replaced by a Chevy V8 350. The steering box, the steering column and the four-speed automatic gearbox also come from a Chevy van. The engine was completely overhauled by an approved company and fitted with a Torker Intake and adapted camshafts for a lot of torque in the bottom. A brand new LPG installation was also built in to reduce the cost of use.
Every nut and bolt has been replaced. The whole chassis has been blasted and resprayed.
The skeleton of the camper is made of metal. The front and back are made of wood, as is the interior. Part of the exterior cladding is made of stainless steel. The wooden back doors and interior cabinets with carvings come from an old wagon. Copper was also used for various details. The kitchen sink unit and sink are real Airstream items. The camper is fully equipped with a bunk bed, fridge, kitchen unit, toilet, etc. and is spacious enough for 2 people. Additional sleeping places can be created by attaching the tent.
The Gypsy Airstream is equipped with all kinds of special details that are not only fun, but also functional and offer more comfort. For example, the window controls are now electric and it has power steering. The switches and instruments on the dashboard have been modified, the cab has two luxury captain chairs from a Chevy camper van. Everything upholstered with real leather. The self-built steering completes the interior in the cab.
This Gypsy Airstream is quite an eye-catcher.
The complete restoration was documented with many photos, we’re happy to show these during a viewing.
The vehicle can be viewed and picked up in Gorinchem, the Netherlands. 43518545
