This document has been submitted for assessment to Dr E.C.M. (Ineke) Huysman of the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands. Below are her findings.
This special letter from February 1626, written and signed on behalf of the Council of State by Maurits Huygens (son of Christiaan and elder brother of Constantijn) and addressed to Frédéric-Maurice de la Tour d'Auvergne, Duke of Bouillon, Prince of Condé Sedan and Rancourt (1605-1652).
The letter deals with the supply of complete (both in officers and equipment) companies (loyal to the States General) from the duke's regiment, serving under stadtholder Frederick Henry.
The handwriting is beautiful, but not easy to read. The transcription is therefore shown in one of the accompanying pictures.
The portrait of Maurits Huygens was painted by Rembrandt. The other portrait is that of the Duke of Bouillon.
In good condition, with remnants of an absent seal. 43555491
