The College Library is one of the world's great research libraries, with the largest and finest collection of books and manuscripts in Ireland. Its early manuscripts, the Book of Kells and the book of Durrow, are world renowned: other gems in this collection are less well known. In this book, which is being published by the Royal Irish Academy, experts in their field write authoritatively and entertainingly about facets of the collections. Topics covered include papyri, early Christian manuscripts, the 1641 depositions, the first American version of 'the Vicar of Wakefield', Jonathan Swift, Erskine Childers, 19th-century Irish song chapbooks, the Long Room and a brief history of the Library. Among the contributions are Anne Crookshank, George Otto Simms, Aidan Clarke, R.B. McDowell, J.H. Andrews, Helga Robinson-Hammerstein, and Paul Pollard. The book is edited by the College Librarian, Peter Fox.
