I purchased 'Whitey' in 1996 as a birthday present for my wife. The body work was in good order and the mechanics and runnng gear were also sound being replaced 126 bits, the round speedo read 202 milesas it had also been replaced.
The car was sent to professional refurbishers who specialised in Jags ,Aston Martins, Bentlys and Rollers-they demanded that I leave it with them for a few days while they assessed it. They duely contacted me and agreed to proceed in rustproofing it inside and out.
I asked why did they have to check it out-and they replied'that Fiat had such a bad rust record they wouldn't risk their good name on anything but a sound vehicle!!
Over the years 'Whitey' broke our heart-nearly every time we went out in it ;it was a tow or break down truck back!! Finally we virtually stopped going out in it, but,I restored the interior-even sourced reclining i26 front seats and had all seats recovered in black Merecedes Benz velour. Finally, in 2009 after renewning all the ignition part so often, Proietti ltd of Blundell Street London recommended an electronic ignition system=MaMa Mia!! it was magic!! Whitey now starts first time every time, purrs like a kitten and roars like a lion!! He'll do 70mph on the motorway!!
But this last few years I have not been able to fully enjoy him due to ill health, He was MoT'd on2/7/16 and resprayed in the week ending 16/9/16- servicing will be carried out by time of sale.
Respray was very successful in two pack Fiat Brillant White .with deiicate Italian pinstriping at waist level immediately below the windows.
This car is exceptional!
