ADRIAN GOLD, LONDON, traded from October 1984 til October 2014 and were known for their high quality leather goods.
This travel document organiser wallet / purse is one of the earlier pieces. I know that because I bought it second-hand in the early 1990s.
I've always had a thing for lovely leather goods, even if I then don't use them!
Beautiful leather, beautifully made. Has gold-stamped sections for Rail Tickets, Air Tickets, Currencies, Tickets, Passport, Documents, and Travellers Cheques.
The Currencies section is zipped. Air and Rail Tickets take the two slots in front of the Currencies compartment.
Tickets - Travellers Cheques are leather-tabbed sections.
Gold coloured metal corners to front flap, gold-coloured metal catch fastening. It may be possible to find or obtain a new key, the lock type takes those odd-shaped two-pronged keys. If you have a collection of odd keys gathered over the years, as I have, you may have one already.
Generous side gusset gives ample space to store all your travel currencies, tickets and other documents all in one very gorgeous little clutch bag / clutch wallet / clutch purse.
Almost no discernible wear to any of the gold stamping, nor to the leather either inside or out. A few very minor, small, light marks to the outside back face, but front near immaculate still.
The suedette lining inside the front flap does have some crinkles to it, this lining covers the whole of the flap, down into the back of the purse, and the lower part is unaffected, it's only the inside of the flap that is. For its age, I think it's in exceptional condition.
Has been much-loved, well looked after, and has been all round the world with me. I used to keep my passport in there in its own leather cover. Even full, this document organiser closes easily.
Measures approx 8.75"or 23cm long, x 5.5" or 14.5cm when closed, and x 9.75" or 25.5cm when open. Gusset is 2.75" or 7.5cm wide at the top, tapering to almost nothing at the very bottom. It's a triangular shaped leather insert.
Parts of this have the real leather suede type skin on the reverse - the insides of the gussets, one side of the zipped section, the back of all the tabs.
The rest is lined with either suedette or fabric, with each tabbed section having wipe-clean leather-look vinyl seperators - these are particularly useful if you get caught out with Grubby Traveller's Fingers, but still need to show your tickets etc.
Holding this wallet is a pleasure. The feel of the leather is very smooth and supple and it gleams softly. It isn't a flat matte finish, it's a glossy jet black.
As a unit, it slips neatly into handbags or other carry-on luggage. Fits in larger coat/jacket pockets, too.
A truly lovely vintage piece. If you're into travelling, and love quality leather goods, this is for you.
Would make an ideal gift for any vintage-loving traveller :)
