Shepherd’s Hut £15,000
New handcrafted shepherd’s hut inspired by Thomas Hardy’s descriptions of life in an old hut.
All the joinery is bespoke, including windows and the stable door, and has been handmade by ourselves in our rural workshop on a working farm in the heart of the West Country.
The hut is a versatile space and could be used as a holiday let, a library, a snug, an office, a playroom for children or a quiet retreat to relax in the garden.
The hut has been constructed from wood from sustainable sources, with a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Promoting Sustainable Forest Management (PEFC) certification.
The timber has been pressure-treated to maximise lifespan and minimise maintenance.
The casement windows are double-glazed with traditional black ironmongery.
The stable door has a bullseye glass panel and has a 5 lever lock for security.
Inside, the walls, ceiling and floor have been coated in Osmo wood wax, a natural plant oil/wax-based product, which allows the wood grain and character to remain visible.
The surfaces are finished with Osmo polyx oil for a long durable life.
The shepherd’s hut is fully insulated with sound-absorbent and fire-resistant insulation.
There are three double electrical sockets finished in black nickel, three internal lights, and an external bulkhead light.
All of the wheels are cast iron and are based on a traditional design.
The wheels, turn table and draw bar have been handmade by a blacksmith in his family-run foundry.
A photo diary is available to show how the hut was built and what materials were used during construction.
