Romeo is a lovely pony who is being sold as a companion or a project for an experienced rider who has the time to commit to him.
I have had him since a 2 year old so this is a heart breaking sale so looking for only a 5* new home that can give him the time and love he deserves. I have tried to be as honest and detailed as possible in this advert so that he can find a suitable home.
He is the most lovely natured pony you will ever meet; he has such a big personality and is very people orientated. He will stand all day giving you kisses or following you around the field and loves a neck scratch! He is great to catch, just comes right over to you every time. You can rug him and spray him without the need to tie him up and he will just stand there. He is great with other horses.
He has been shod with fronts a couple of times with no problems but is usually barefoot. He is a very good doer and tends to be on the plump side! Lives out all year round with mares and geldings so would make a great field companion, he is not used to being stabled.
Romeo was broken as a 4 year old. He is now fine when being ridden in the school/field and has recently been doing some small cross poles which (although he isn’t a natural jumper) he has really enjoyed! When hacking he can be as good as gold one day not fazed by anything, then the next he can be the opposite and buck/rear/spin in the road for no reason.
The last couple of summers I have worked him through this and by the end of the summer he has behaved but sadly due to working full time and moving from the family home where he is stabled, I only get to ride him twice a week max and as I don’t have access to a school he is out of work each winter which means I have to start again with him each spring. For this reason I haven’t been able to put in the time required to give him the consistency he needs and we unfortunately don’t have completely off road hacking, making it dangerous when he behaves like this on the road.
He has never got a rider off through this behaviour but needs someone who is not fazed and will just kick him on and ride him through it.
It is for this reason that he is being sold as a companion or project for an experienced and confident teenage/adult rider, he would not be suitable for children. I do believe in the right home he could make a lovely riding pony and would do well at showing because of how stunning he is.
He has also only been travelled once and didn’t travel well but we haven’t travelled him again so unsure of how he would be now he has matured.
Good home more important than price. Just had his vaccinations and teeth done.
