Houghton Butcher Popular Ensign folding camera & accessories. c1920s. Aldis-Butcher anastigmat F6.3 4.25" lens.
Very good antique condition. Has been stored away unused for many years in a cool dry place. I have never used or tested this camera so I cannot guarantee the quality of pictures it will take nowadays.
Uses glass plates or panatomic individual film exposure cartridge packs or 2 1/4B roll film (sticker inside back says "to load this camera ask for a 120 Ensign Speedy 2 1/4B roll film").
Shutter works (otherwise untested).
Chamfered bellows undamaged.
Camera body: wood & aluminium covered in black leather - use-related wear on leather otherwise good condition, "ensign" embossed on handle, removable back with off-centre clips preventing it being put on upside down & removable plate to allow glass plate or film cartridge pack attachment to be used. Measures approx 19cm x 10cm x 4.5cm max without case or attachments.
Original opening glass plate & film cartridge pack attachments.
Original metal exposure plates - very stiff to open.
Original instruction booklet: dogeared edges & cover loose/torn.
Original Aldis Butcher Ensign Carbine lens number 129305 (stamped on lens) guarantee.
Original brown leather case: age-related wear/rubbing, stitching has split at top & strap worn.

Shutter release cable may not be original.
Dates c1920s or maybe earlier.
Provenance: belonged to a relative (passed down from previous generation).
