Top 10 Reasons To Adopt Rabbits Instead Of Buying

Preloved is proud to be taking part in Rabbit Welfare Association & Funds's Breeding & Sales Amnesty. This campaign was created to highlight the current rabbit rescue shelter crisis. It's aim; to ask would-be buyers to rehome through rescue shelters. By doing this people can help the shelters get the incredible number of bunnies in need of adoption back under control. We spoke with RWAF to get their top 10 reasons to adopt.

Why Rescue Is Best

We are in the midst of a rabbit rescue crisis. More rabbits than ever are being abandoned and rescue shelters simply do not having the space or the resources to take them all in. We are urging anyone who is thinking of adding rabbits to their family to adopt.

Adopting from a reputable rescue centre rather than buying from a breeder or a pet shop is the responsible thing to do. It's sensible too! There are many benefits to you as an owner for adopting.  Before you consider getting rabbits, you need to know what you're taking on. Luckily, there's a lot of good information on our website.

Top 10 Reasons To Adopt Rabbits

Top 10 Reasons To Adopt

  1. Rabbits should live in pairs. However, they can breed from 16 weeks old. Rescues will have checked the sex of the rabbits they rehome. They'll have neutered them too, so no surprise accidental litters!
  2. Rabbits are health checked and vaccinated before they are rehomed. This means no surprise health problems later down the line.
  3. Rabbits are already neutered before they are adopted. This saves you the stress, time and money of having to get it done yourself. A rescue's rehoming donation almost never covers the true cost of the operation. You'll be making a big saving!
  4. You will get advice and guidance prior to adoption. You know you're going to be doing everything right, giving them a healthy and happy life.
  5. The rabbits you adopt will already be bonded. This is priceless. It’s vital that rabbits are kept in compatible pairs as they're social animals and suffer if kept alone. Many rescues offer a bonding service if you're adopting company for your existing rabbit.
  6. Baby rabbits are cute, but it doesn’t last long. By adopting adult rabbits you can see exactly how big they are. You can also check out what their coat's like and how much care it'll need.
  7. Rescues are very knowledgeable. They'll give you the true picture of what it's like caring for rabbits.
  8. Rescues have rabbits of all sizes and ages. There'll certainly be somebun for you!
  9. When you adopt you will get lifetime advice and support from the rescue. Even if you find you're unable to look after the rabbits anymore they're there to support you.
  10. By adopting from a rescue you are freeing up space for more animals to be helped. It’s simply the right thing to do.
