Norma Roy(17 Sep 1926 - 26 Nov 2020)

Norma was born in Huddersfield in 1926 and spent her early years living in London with her mother, father and two brothers.

The family moved to a house on the Yorkshire moors where her sister Pauline was born. Norma and her family then moved to Houghton le Spring a small mining town in the North East of England where she spent the rest of her childhood.

On leaving school Norma trained as a teacher first teaching in York where she met her husband Ian. They married and had a daughter Fiona. The family moved to Carlisle where Norma taught Art at a local high school. Norma then went on to become the art teacher at Carlisle Technical College until she retired.

Norma was thrilled to realise a life long ambition to be an artist. She exhibited and sold paintings over many years and in many parts of the World. She took a leading role in organising the annual Fratery Art Exhibition in Carlisle Cathedral and encouraged local artists to take part. Her most rewarding achievement was to have one of her paintings exhibited in the Mall Gallery London as part of an exhibition by the Royal Society of Water colourists.
