Advert Description
Tamarind Black Stars series, slim softback book, David Grant, by Verna Wilkins.
Very good condition, spine unbroken, but have just spotted a crease across the bottom of the spine on the outside - doesn’t go through to inside - all pages tightly bound.
Incl. various photos of David, and David’s account of his life, and his conversion to Christianity.
Great present.
Bought because I knew David in the 1980s/ 1990s. This outlines the reason we broke up - he’d discovered Christianity and met Carrie, who was on the same journey. I knew nothing about this at the time. All I knew was that David, the love of my then young life, had gone from writing songs about us, flat hunting and planning our future together, to being largely…well, absent. I was heartbroken.
We met when I was 23, during a gig that my brother put on at Cinderella’s in Gloucester in July 1985; David was one of the acts, the Cool Notes were the other. I was there as hospitality, to look after the artistes and make sure they had everything they needed and didn’t get mobbed by groups of fans. I was besotted, and I thought he was too.
Long story short, after 2 months of letters, phone calls and mad drives up and down the M4, I moved to London in September 1985 so we didn’t have to keep commuting between Gloucester and London, and he almost immediately vanished on me. (These days, I suppose we’d say I was ghosted.)
Months later, I met Carrie at David’s manager’s house.
After that, I met Carrie for lunch in town so we cld clear the air, which we did, although David spent some time with me as a friend long after that. We haven’t spoken for well over a decade now.
