The sets were well designed with an italianate room similar to the style of the one used in the Coliseum production of Lucia di Lammermoor last year, and a photo backdrop for the military camp in Act III. The costumes were however modern and contemporary in style.
The orchestral playing by the Royal Opera House orchestra, conducted by Antonio Papanno, was excellent, along with the singing with Anna Netrebko and Liudmyla Monastyrska as Leonora, Jonas Kaufman and Yusif Eyvazov as Don Alvero, Robert Lloyd as the Marquis of Calatrava, and Ludovic Tezier as Don Carlos di Vargas.
