This performance received some excellent reviews, whilst some others were critical of parts of the sets and costumes.
Lohengrin's white suit was criticised as a 1960's pop singer, along with the singing of Klaus Florian Vogt, although there was also equal praise by other critics for this Bayreuth singer who specialises in this particular role.
The swan was suggested by projected wing images, and there were slanting buildings in the first act.
There was criticism of the stylised swan, the storm troopers and the banners.
The orchestral playing by the Royal Opera House orchestra was excellent, along with the singing.
Jennifer Davis came in for particular praise as Else, although she was a stand in.
She made a fantastic debut in the role however.
