Rigoletto Welsh National Opera Programme 2019 Autumn season.
Has photos and relevant informed articles about the recent production which went on tour, and the music and history of this leading Verdi opera.
The production was set in the White House of John F Kennedy and there were pastiches of the Oval Office and a backdrop of the Capital Building.
The costumes were 1960s with interesting evening 60's evening wear for the opening party scene with mafia overtones. An interesting rendition in Rigoletto's house of La donna e mobile.
None of this related to the actual text of the opera, but as it was opera, it didn't really matter.
The finale death scene was also spell binding after Rigoletto discovered the trick with his daughter Gilda.
The orchestral playing by the Welsh National Opera orchestra conducted by Alexander Joel was excellent, along with the singing with David Junghoon Kim as the Duke, Mark S Doss as Rigoletto, Paula Greenwood as Countess Ceprano, Alistair Moore as Marullo, Martin Lloyd as Count Ceprano, James Platt as Sparafucile, and Marina Monzo and Haagee Lee as Gilda.
