The sets were dynamic, begining with the storm scene with a galleon shown in the background for the landing, with lightening and effective sound effects.
The main sets had John Piper geometric square like designs at each sides with a black base background, with reminisences of Coventry Cathedral.
Act III with the arrival of Lodovico from Venice also had a red backdrop what was effective for this pivotal part of the performance.
There was also an interesting Imperial styled Lion winged statue that passed through the stage that was the Winged Lion of Venice.
The costumes were 16th Century and were notable for Iago's outfit, Otello's clothes and also Desdemona's dresses.
The orchestral playing by the Royal Opera House orchestra conducted by Antonia Pappano, was excellent, along with the singing with Gregory Kunde as Otello, Ermonela Jaho as Desdemona, Carlos Alvarez as Iago, Freddie de Tommaso as Cassio, Michael Mofidian as Montano, Andres Presno as Roderigo and David Soar as Lodovico.
