It is rare to find a full pack of these wonderful 1940’s Currant/Baking Advertising Happy Families Playing Cards in their original box.
The box is somewhat battered this is reflected in the asking price, but the 32 cards inside are in very good condition.
The front of each card has a wonderful coloured illustration of various characters. The back of every card has the same delightful drawing of a young girl making a currant cake with the slogan,
“Spare the currants and spoil the cake”
About
Part of a campaign by the Central Currant Office (London) who were also producing recipe books at the time and encouraging increased consumption of currants, a nutritious part of the diet in post war Britain.
Card size is 5 x 3.5 cm
