Advert Description

Carmen, English National Opera programme London Coliseum, elegant and stylish programme for 2019/20 Winter season.
Has photos and relevant informed articles about the current production and the music and history of this Bizet Opera.
The photos above are from the original programme, which has been sold, although the scans are scanned from the programme in colour.
The set was minimalistic grey background, although the final Act had a Picasso style Bull cut out as a backdrop.
The lighting was good, and Act 1 had the soldiers in boot camp style wearing combat gear, with a flag pole win the middle with the Spanish flag flying in the wind from time to time.
There was also a European style telephone box on the left of the stage.
There were also cars on stage in Act 2.
There was a lot of movement and this added to the dynamism of this production.
Very different from the Royal Opera House production consisting of stairs and also the Welsh National Opera production with its Spanish cemetery barracks backdrop and metal cages.
The choreography with the soldiers and later the smugglers was skilfully presented, and this kept up visual interest throughout the performance.
One of the best recent Carmens.
The star of the show was Justina Gringyte as Carmen, who had 1950's style clothing including a gabardine cream raincoat over a black slip undergarment style dress.
The orchestral playing by the English National Opera orchestra was excellent, conducted by Valentina Peleggi, along with the singing with Justina Gringyte as Carmen, Sean Panikkar as Jose, Samantha Price as Mercedes, Keel Watson as a Lieutenant and Alex Otterburn as a Corporal.
Postage extra or collection in person free.
