Advert Description

I have inherited the three highly collectable antique items being offered here as one lot in this private sale from a pet, smoke and Covid free home.

As the hat pin belonged to my great grandmother, who was born in 1862 I assume it is either Victorian or Edwardian.

It is in good condition given its age and use, although a few of the small diamante “jewels” are missing. Please refer to the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding the condition of this item.

I believe the attractive head of the hat pin is made from ivorine.
This is a sort of protein based plastic that was developed in the late 1800’s and became popular for producing cheaper jewellery, hair accessories and many other items.

The size of the decorative end of the hat pin is approx 4.5 cm long by 1.0 cm wide at its widest point.
The total length of this hat pin is approx 15.0cm.

Fretwork ovals such as the two for sale here were used by the Victorians and Edwardians to decorate bracelets and necklaces.
I inherited the two being offered for sale here via my late grandfather, who was a skilled jewellery maker based in the renowned jewellery quarter of Birmingham.

The hand carved detail of stags and birds on these delicate pieces is fine and looks most attractive.
I’m not sure whether they are made from ivorine or bone.

Condition is very good given their age; there is just a small nibble into the left hand edge of one of them - opposite the stag’s head.
Please refer to the photographs provided to make your own assessment regarding condition.

The size of both is approx 4.0 cm high by 3.0 cm wide.

I would prefer the Buyer to collect, and pay cash on collection please. Postage, to a location within mainland United Kingdom, including Northern Ireland, at the Buyer’s own risk, £6.00. Regret no returns accepted. Thank you.
