Advert Description

Please feel free to make an offer.

A Rare Style of Antique postal scales. I haven't noticed a maker stamp or name.

On the flat brass plate it states;

The graduated arm goes from 0 to 16 1/2.
The flat brass plate also has two brass tabs, to prevent letters from migrating towards the graduated arm.

In expected used condition for a balance of this age & nature. I think they originally would have been silver or silver plated, as the counter weight still has some silvering on it.
There's a large piece of lead screwed to the underside of the brass plate, I'm guessing to calibrate it. I have tried some of my own weights & suprisingly they're still fairly accurate.
(The scales don't come with any weights. The weights in some of the images are just there to help to demonstrate that it balances).
There are a few scratches, both on the brass, the counter weight & on the wooden lacquered base. The wooden base looks like it's split to the rare edge & has been historically glued.

There are expected impact marks, where the bottom of the counter weight has impacted the wooden base. I'm sure they could be further improved by someone who knows what they're doing, but I've just left them in "as found" condition.
They would polish up nicely too.
The underside of the base amazingly still has its original paper lining.

The base is approx just under 12 1/2" at its longest part & 5" at its  widest part. The centre pivot is just over 4 1/4" high.

These are fresh to the market & rarely come up for sale, as they're getting very hard to find.

Please study the images, as they also form part of the description & please do your own research.

Can post at extra cost. Postage includes being signed for.
