Edwardian reproduction Georgian mahogany oval dining table with an extending leaf, and a heavy duty table protector.
The condition is very good especially for the age as it has been well looked after by the same family for approx 60 years. Unfortunately it is now too big for our dining room so sadly we have to sell. It looks good laid with table mats, silver cutlery and beautiful china. Seats 6 or 8 (with the extension) for very comfortable smart dining. The overall dimensions are length 167.5 cm (213 cm extended), width 99 cm, height 75 cm.
The table comes in three basic sections:
the table top leaf used to extend the length of the table, and two sections, each with half of the oval top mounted on a table leg with a tripod of brass/brass effect feet/castors.
Of the six feet/castors, four are the original zamak (zinc alloy) castings finished in a brass-effect, whilst two have been replaced with the same castings but made with stronger brass. The top can be rotated to the vertical position for storage (if necessary the top can be removed from the leg for transport or storage), or locked in the level position with a brass catch when in use.
The two (or three) parts of the table top fit together with a dowel and hole arrangement, and then locked in position with brass forks at either side of the joints.
The heavy-duty table expensive protector is 10 mm thick and is currently in one piece to fit the extended table – if required it could be cut across to match the joins in the table top so it could then be used on the table when either unextended or extended. As new condition.
This table is for collection only because of its size (this may be by a specialist furniture courier arranged by the buyer). Protective blankets or bubble wrap would need to brought to transport. See my other items for the chairs that have been used with this table for at least 50 years.
