Hello,
I am selling this ANTIQUE Chinese Ceramic Incense Burner in Pink Glaze ( (fen sè) or Famille Rose with a Five Clawed Dragon chasing the Flaming Pearl of wisdom, which is stunning and something I bought back in the 1980's in a charity shop as I liked the colour and dragon on it.
This extremely RARE survivor incense burner is truly exquisite and exceptional and a fine example of "studio pottery" created by the common people of that era, in reverence (Kowtow) to the Emperor of that time Qianlong (Reign 1735-1796). There were lesser quality ceramics or works of art made during the reign of the Emperor which were not intended for Imperial use, and these are known as "Minyao" or ware of the people and I believe this is one of those pieces. The potter celebrated the Emperor's good reign by creating the incense burner with a five clawed dragon, chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom and in an unusual colour and also added the less well-executed Qianlong reign mark in blue on the base. The reign mark is under the glaze, in other words the burner was finished, the mark was added glazed and then fired in the kiln. No two pieces would have been the same from a studio pottery, so the question is "how many of these pieces have survived after all this time" with the Qianlong mark on the base, as I could not find any similar pieces upon researching this.
If you look at the photos, you will see the "pottery crazing" all over the incense burner including the inside which can only occur through age and time (see photos).
This item is in a used condition for something of this age, and remarkably there are no chips or damage to this incense burner, and it is completely intact and overall it is excellent.
