Advert Description

Hello,

I am selling my Chinese Emperor's Dragons Throne Chair c1875 that is made from Rosewood and stained and is beautifully carved with two dragons.

The two dragons bodies merge and meet, and form the arms, legs and supporting back of the chair. One dragon has his eyes open, and the other dragon has his eyes closed, representing the "Yin and Yang" of the universe (see photos) which indicates it's authenticity as most later reproduction chairs from 1900 onwards have both eyes open. The dragons also have the "Flaming Pearl of Wisdom" in their mouths.

I bought this chair back in the early 1980's from a house clearance in the New Forest, and the owners told me that it had been in their family since the 1920's when an uncle who worked as a travelling salesman in Asia brought it back from Hong Kong when he returned to the UK.

The chair is in a used condition relevant to its age as described and the patina on the wood has rubbed in some places to show usage over the many years, and it is very sturdy and comfortable to sit in.

I had an oriental specialist look at this chair 30 years ago, and he gave me the details on its age and description and said that it was in very good condition and sought after being all original.

The chair measures L 26 inches x W 18 inches x H 34 inches approx.
This magnificent chair is in storage and available for viewing by appointment.

If you have any questions, please contact me.

This chair can be shipped to anywhere in the UK and will be sent via tracked/signed for peace of mind for all parties.

For international buyers: ANY import duties/taxes must be paid by the Buyer in the country of importation. The packing/shipping costs will be on request depending on which country it will be shipped to, and are for the buyer to PAY.
