Advert Description

The Lancashire United Company, based in Atherton, was once a well known and respected provider of public transport within the county. It even participated in the famous X60 route from Manchester to Blackpool in the 1950s and 1960s, jointly with North Western and Ribble, in the heyday of British holidays, long before people got a taste for places like Benidorm and Crete.

Today the X60 route is a pale shadow of itself, but this excellent model of one of the company's reliable Daimler CVD5 vehicles, in its box (see specimen) and on a route closer to home, to Leigh, epitomises the quality and well built means of transport local people enjoyed before Lancashire United was absorbed into Greater Manchester Transport: thus bringing an end to local transport identities and recognisable liveries that have morphed into the computer generated and brash colours of the likes of Stagecoach, Arriva and First that are the same wherever you are in the country.
