Advert Description

Please feel free to make an offer.

An Rare & Early Antique Naval Hardwood Truncheon. It originally came from either Portsmouth or Plymouth, I'm afraid to say that I can't remember which.

In expected used condition, for an item of this age & nature, with knocks & bits of historical damage around the handle. There is some historical expected shrinkage cracks but it's still solid & fit for purpose. It's still retains some of its varnish or polish. There are some minor surface scratches on the handle from from the piece of brass attached to the old hanging string.
I suspect that the handle, even though it's darker, is carved from the same piece of wood. There's a nice bit of weight to it. I'm not quite sure whether it's Oak or Mahogany.

A lovely piece of hardwood, very smooth & tactile.

Pieces like this don't surface very often. In fact in over 41 years I've never had one before. It should really live in an appropriate museum for the enjoyment of everyone.

It's approx 14 1/2" long.

Please study the images as they also form part of the description & please do your own research.
