Advert Description
Please feel free to make an offer.
A Gramophone made by Varaphone. I believe some of it is around 1910. The base is oak. The horn speaker is made from brass.
In expected used & poorish condition for an item of this age & nature.
It's a very confusing item, as the base appears to have lots of age & is obviously an antique. However, the horn is very thin brass & looks far more modern & vintage. Also other metal parts look newer & are more modern, as there's a nut & bolt. The reading head has a rubber part & there’s also an aluminium piece. So it appears to be a mish mash of old & new. The turn table still actually rotates when the handle's wound, but it does go slower with a record on it. Also inside there's a centrifugal device that spins & allows the weights to move away from it’s fulcrum. However one of the springs requires a repair. So it clearly needs looking at & some renovation if you want to play it properly.
Having said that, the horn would benefit from a polish & the entire piece has a Great look as a decorators statement piece. It has a great look as a decorative Ornament. It also has a nice golden colour to the wood.
Please study the images, as they also form part of the description & please do your own research.
