This antique violin probably dates back to the turn of the late 19th Century, all set up and ready to pick up and play. The tight grained Sitka Spruce table and flamed book matched radially cut Maple back and Ribs along with good inlayed Tramline Purfling on table and back demonstrates a quality, hand crafted instrument. The original violin varnish is in excellent quality and it has received a light cosmetic clean yet maintained its natural patina and years of being well played showing age related care and wear and loving use. Sadly I do not know the full history of this fine instrument, clearly evidence suggests that it has been played by an established violinist.
This Violin typically will suit a player who has previously gained a few grades and wants a better quality instrument to progress their gradings, or, a returner to playing and wants a better instrument to create a better sound.
It is in an excellent condition and has been fully inspected ready for immediate use. No splits, cracks, loose joints. The sound post is correctly set and firm. The bridge is fitted correctly and set in position too. The base bar is also firm and sound. The Ebony pegs are well fitted and holds tuning pitch well. While I am not a fan of fine tuners these re fitted to further assist the player to tune to pitch. There is evidence of previously well executed repairs to the top but all strong and sound.
You may appreciate with professional quality strings like Dominant synthetic strings this instrument produces a nice warm, clean and clear tone and has a lasting resonance . Clearly a well played violin and well loved.
Quality Ebony tuning pegs are fitted. The peg box has been reamered to fit the tuning pegs and these have been greased to ensure smooth and effective hold to pitch.
