Advert Description

This traditional style French bread box was hanging from the wall in the kitchen of our old house in Charente Maritime when we bought the place over twenty years ago. Apparently It was made in the 1960s by the village carpenter in his workshop, which is just twenty five metres from our house. Until we brought it to the UK it hadn’t travelled very far!

It is of traditional wooden construction with a hinged top flap and a pull out crumb drawer at the bottom for easy cleaning. It can hang on the wall or stand on the floor. It measures 74cm/29ins tall at the front and 89cm/35ins at the back. It is 32cm/8¾ins side to side and front to back. There is a cut-out handle at the top. It can easily hold up to nine or ten full length baton loaves or over twenty baguettes.

There are a few minor blemishes, as one would expect with something that has been in daily use for over fifty years, but as it is in bare, natural wood, it could be polished or varnished or would make an interesting paint project. It would add a nice touch in any kitchen or to a restaurant or hotel dining room. It would also be a useful addition to a film or TV props department.

Because of the size and weight I would prefer collection, but I will send it at the buyers expense if necessary. The cost of UK carriage is likely to be somewhere around £6. From a smoke free, dust free and animal free environment. PayPal accepted. Please feel free to make an offer!
