Advert Description

GM TRANSPORT BRISTOL VR

This pristine 1:76 scale model is of a Bristol VR double decker, a fleet of which was ordered by the erstwhile North Western Road Car Company of Stockport but delivered to the South East Lancashire and North East Cheshire Transport Executive (SELNEC) when all of the local authorities’ fleets in the area and part of North Western, were amalgamated: largely against their wishes, to form an entity based on the London Transport system.

They never wore North Western livery, but arrived in the orange and white of SELNEC. The three piece North Western front destination and route number apertures survived the transition, however, as their construction was completed just as the Transport Act of 1968 came into effect in 1969.

Although they initially carried the SELNEC (Cheshire) logo, that was replaced by the one displayed on the model when Greater Manchester Transport was formed in 1974.

It’s on a route from Stockport to Gatley and bears adverts on one side for a timber supplier and Vernons Pools on the other.

It’s never been out of its box. See photos of a second model.
