A Primitive & Unusual pair of old Leather Shoes.
Style wise, I believe these shoes are called opanka / opanke or opank. They consist of a piece of leather with raised sides, with holes punched to run a leather cord to crimp them round the foot & which then can be extended to tie round the ankle & lower leg. Opanke are traditional footwear across Eastern Europe, so countries such as Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Poland, Croatia, & Lithuania.
I have seen similar examples in a shoe museum collection.
I suspect they're probably early to mid-twentieth century.
In expected used condition for an item of this age & nature. One shoe has holes in the underside, both front & back. They're obviously just ornaments now but look great hanging on the wall.
Approx 12 1/2" in total length.
Please study the images, as they also form part of the description & please do your own research.
Can post at extra cost. Postage includes being signed for.
