Healthy, high-quality overwintered five frame Buckfast nucs from an instrumentally inseminated VSH (Varroa resistance) pure F0 Buckfast breeder queen. Standard frame size, 14 x 12's also available. These exceptional queens have been carefully selected by Northumberland Honey and bred for generations to strengthen resistance to varroa and increase hygienic traits. Because she was instrumentally inseminated it assures that her superior qualities are passed down the generations. Due to the quality VSH traits you may notice more uncapping and recapping of cells because the bees are more vigilant with varroa. They've a low swarming tendency, are calm on the comb and relaxed outside the hive. For us, a family with a dog, they've been a pleasure to work with due to their calm nature. Recommended for increasing the quality of apiary genetics and high honey yields.
Disease prevention: Not a single colony's been introduced to our apiary for years in order to safeguard our precious bees from diseases and keep them in prime health. We've only introduced new queens to increase the quality of genetics. And, we've never set up swarm traps or use any second hand equipment which lessens potential transfer of disease.
All nucs are healthy, thriving mini-colonies because of VSH genetics, frequent health checks, organic treatments and regular comb rotation. They're systematically treated with Oxalic acid in December.
