2024 beautiful ram lambs looking for flocks of their own. We are a non traditional soay breeder in that we love the interesting colours and aim for these traits within our flock. We have some stunning little lads who will be available at weaning time and ready to find homes. Lots of light dark and pied boys available.
Soay sheep are a primitive breed, native to the islands of St. Kilda. These sheep have a wool that sheds naturally without the need for shearing, the tails do not need docking and they lamb on their own with ease. This makes them a great easy care sheep. They are much smaller than average sheep, rams reaching average 35kgs, ewes around 25kgs, making them very easy to handle. They have fantastic characters and are great to have around, much nicer to keep you fields down than a lawnmower! Whilst they are a little more wary, we have always found the more time you put in to building trust and bonds with them the better they get. We have girls that love a cuddle and they are all food motivated so come straight to a bucket. Soay are brighter than your average white sheep and this means good fencing is a must, they will look for a way out of your field but as long as you have stock fencing or good electric fence you won’t have any problems.
Having had soays we would never go back to any other breed of sheep, they are so easy to look after and so rewarding, we recommend them to everyone! Being a rare breed as well it’s great to keep the species going and be a part of the rare breed survival program. They truly are a great all round breed and great for first time sheep keepers.
All our sheep are fully registered or birth notified with the rare breed society and will come with all the paperwork. Collection from Wareham, Dorset. Feel free to ask me any questions.
