Preview of the first image of Triebert, Paris, tenor sax made by Couesnon, 1930s.

Advert Description

This sax originates from the Couesnon factory in France, early 1930s. Earlier in the last century Triebert was a small manufacturer. On disbanding, Couesnon bought the name and used it on some of their own production. The rolled tone holes indicate the maker.

There is one unusual and possibly unique feature - there is a lever within the left hand cluster that operates an auxiliary D#/Eb vent in the centre of the D cup (the standard D#/Eb key remains in place). The current pad would need replacing with a modified D pad (ie a hole cut out of it) to enable this to function.

The sax does play with a little effort as it is at the moment. Pads have recently been replaced where necessary but others do seal but should ideally be replaced. There is one dent in the bow but otherwise it is dent and ding free.

The setting up of the octave keys is a bit of a labour of love! I've got them balanced and working but a pro technician would improve this during a service.

Please note this is a vintage sax over 90 years old and it does NOT feel like playing on a modern saxophone. The left hand cluster feels very different, more like that of a USA made sax of that era (similar to a Conn Pan American tenor).

Finally, whilst it does blow reasonably well it should ideally be overhauled if it is required for serious playing. Certainly not one for an inexperienced player!
