Advert Description

As a result of the work at Cambridge University, the auto-sexing breeds (where day old chicks can be sexed reliably on colour) were developed. Two breeds of mention were the Gold Legbar which is an good layer of white shelled eggs & the The Cream Legbar based on Araucana's are excellent layers of medium sized powder blue eggs.

As you will see from the photo's here, the Cream Legbar is a particularly attractive example.

They are an economical bird to keep. Cream Legbars are classed as medium size poultry; they do not eat a lot. I just keep a full feeder of good quality layer pellets available for them, and it is always a surprise to see how little they do eat. They also love lots of fresh grass. Grass gives them calcium & protein. Grass also means chickens produce eggs with beautiful orange yolks (reliably about 200 - 200 eggs p.a.). No chemicals like supermarket eggs - just layer pellets & grass!!

These birds are tranquil hens;like all chickens they are easily worried by dogs & don't like wind/rain. They are happy to be in human company - even enjoying a cuddle! They rarely go broody.

Given a good life & attentive care (no stress), they should live for about ten years & lay eggs for most of those years.
