Rare chicken breeds in the UK

Bielefelder and bresse

Bresse gauloise are a famous French dual purpose breed.

Bielefelder are very very rare in the UK - an incredible dual purpose breed from Germany.

Not only are they beautiful, but they lay a good number of brown speckled eggs, similar to a welsummer, 200-250 per year, and they reach a good size for the table also.

Bielefelder can be sexed very easily at day old, as they are an autosexing breed.

At day old - the males have a lighter colour and yellow spots on their heads, the hens have darker striped markings on their back and a distinct 'eye liner'.

This is how I'm able to sex mine already at 3 days old!

My broody has just hatched out for me 2 bresse (yellow chicks, can't sex yet) 2 bielefelder hens, one silver and one traditional crele colour, and 2 crele cockerells.

I will be keeping all but one Crele cockerell, as I only need one to breed with!

Very good quality stock sourced from the only breeder I know in the UK who has heavily imported quality stock from Germany for a number of years now.

I have for sale 1 bielefelder cockerell and at least 2 bresse, possibly more available from August- October.

I have several batches of chick's, some 7 week olds, these 2 week olds and another clutch still under the broody.

Very rare breeds so £30 each.

Fed the best quality feed, natural upbringing with broody mothers.

All you need now is some bielefelder / bresse hens, or eggs!

I won't have hatching eggs for at least six months bielefelder, and in three months again for bresse.
