New edition, "more beautiful and more complete than that of 1725" (Brunet).

Edme Boursault, born October 6, 1638 in Mussy l'Évêque (now Mussy-sur-Seine) and died September 15, 1701 in Montluçon, was a French playwright.

Author now forgotten, Boursault had a great place in the theatrical life of his time. He even took an active part in the quarrels with Molière and Boileau. Some of his comedies were very successful, and one of his tragedies was compared by Corneille himself to those of Racine.

Boursault's reputation rests on three comedies in five acts, in verse: le Mercure galant did not bear the same name as his gazette), Aesop in the city and Aesop at court. The spirit of these comedies with drawers, which were then called comedies with episodes, is lively, the comedy frank, the style natural.
