Thomas Faed (1826-1900)
The work offered shows a beautiful representation of his hand, an interior with various people. It is a well shot piece with beautiful details and a nice composition.

By 1868, Faed had established himself as the leading proponent of the Scottish genre in both London and Edinburgh. An early protégé, his talent and enthusiasm had led his older brother John to secure him a place on the Trustees' Academy. By the age of twenty-three he had exhibited more than 20 pictures at the Royal Scottish Academy. In 1849 the Art Journal singled out his work, as it should on many successive occasions, declaring: 'Thomas Faed, we prophesy, will attain great fame in his department of art – rustic interiors with figures'. Faed first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1851, and in 1855 The Mitherless Bairn caused a sensation among critics and the public alike. A venerable marquis fell to his knees in front of it, alarming the authorities about his relative ability to rise again.
