André Levret is certainly the most famous obstetrician of the 18th century, he improved the techniques and was made midwife at court.

This important publication deals with polyps, soft tumors affecting the mucous membranes, the first chapters dealing exclusively with the female genitalia, the anus and the colon, the following with the nose and throat. It reports the observations of the practitioner and his interventions.

This third edition is augmented by a supplement "which contains new methods of carrying ligatures in deep places, theoretical and practical reflections on the same subjects".
