The colour, the glow and the shine, the shape. The emotion and experience. That's the world of Ton Schulten. Or maybe the world according to Ton Schulten. Get to know that world. A world of emotion and enchantment. No one escapes the mysterious power of the impressive work of Ton Schulten, the simple baker's son from Ootmarsum. His work, by now known worldwide, charms the viewer. Shapes, colours and paradisiacal compositions that offer calmness. Impressive and sometimes even hypnotic. Emotionally and above all so beautifully composed, that no man escapes the powerful and mysterious appearance. His work warms and is of an inimitable beauty.

Ton Schulten was born in Ootmarsum as the son of a baker. He grew up in a traditional Catholic middle-class family with six children. Schulten starts with a priestly education but leaves it when he realises that he wants to pursue a more artistic path. He starts working as a window dresser at Vroom & Dreesman and follows the evening course at the Academie voor Kunst en Industrie in Enschede where he graduated cum laude in 1962. In 1961, Schulten joined a leading advertising agency. However, he continues to draw and paint in his scarce free time. It is only when Schulten puts an end to his advertising career that he can really follow his artistic conscience well. He's had enough of, as he calls it, 'playing manager'. It alienates him from the creative process. Ton was also involved in a serious car accident with his wife Ank in 1991. A close friend of the couple was killed. It marks a turning point in Ton's life. Through abstract canvases with geometric shapes and large floral paintings, Schulten arrives at the Twente landscape. The landscape mosaic becomes his characteristic subject. Schulten feels connected to the Twente landscape from an early age. Characteristic of his work are intense colours and wide vertical stripes on his canvases. The details in his works are self-contained paintings. Schulten is inspired by the Twente backstage landscape. Here he finds not only the ideas, but also the peace, the space and the unique light to create tirelessly. Schulten gets up every day at two or three o'clock in the morning to work in complete isolation in his studio. His credo is 'I let things happen that can't, but that are terribly interesting in terms of their effect. This creates a constantly new, creative process'. 67616837
