This work was produced jointly by the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Albert-KAhn Departmental Museum on the occasion of the exhibition "Le Paris de l'Orient: Presence Francaise a Shanghai, 1849-1946", designed and presented by the Albert-kahn Museum from February 19 to June 16, 2002 with the participation of the Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
With numerals illustrations, maps and portraits, this book discusses topics such as "administration and politics- the French concession", "the French connection: opium and the French concession in Shanghai", "Shanghai, financial center and modern metropolis", "the French to Shanghai tramway and electricity company", "sharing cultures, action on the ground French missionaries in Shanghai", "the commitment of Chinese artists: woodcut, 1929-1940", and others.
