Group Delta A has been very successful in the World Rally Championship. The car dominated the championships in the early years of Group A, which replaced the Group B class in 1987. In total, the car won 46 World Cup rallies. Juha Kankkunen became world champion in 1987 and 1991 and Miki Biasion in 1988 and 1989. Lancia also won the constructors' title six times in a row between 1987 and 1992.
