The Graduale is a Gregorian chant of the Holy Mass sung in the Tridentine liturgy in the pre-mass, between the Epistle and the Gospel. In the Novus Ordo Missae, the gradual is sung in the word service between the first reading and the second reading.

The Graduale is part of the Proprium Missae, the proprium of the Mass. The word graduale is derived from the Latin word gradus, step. One speaks of a staircase prayer that is prayed by the priest after the reading of the Epistle.
