Advisor to the Parliament of Toulouse, Catellan began his collection in 1664, then continued until 1700, the year of his death.

His precise knowledge of the practice of the Toulouse parliament enabled him to put together a collection of case law which made him one of the most famous Toulouse court clerks. He prepared the edition during his lifetime, but it was one of his nephews, François, who published it in 1705 under the title “Remarkable Arrests of the Parliament of Toulouse”.

Renowned for their reliability, the judgments of Catellan constituted, from their first edition, the main reference text for Toulouse law professors.

Clear and precise, this collection, which has been reissued four times, has enjoyed remarkable success and is the subject of Observations by Gabriel de Vedel?.

The Parliament of Toulouse was created in 1443, on the model of the Parliament of Paris, at the request of the States of Languedoc, which for a long time claimed it in the name of the distance from Paris and the specificity of southern law; it will be the first of its kind.
