I have here for sale a RARE book entitled Stanley's Emin Pasha Expedition by A.J. Wauters, Chief editor in the Mouvement Geographique, Brussels. With Map, thirty-four portraits and illustrations. Published by John C Nimmo, London, 1890. It's a First Edition.

Alphonse-Jules Wauters (1845–1916) was a Belgian art historian, geographer, and magazine editor. His passion, however, was geography. He became Secretary of the Brussels Geographical Society, and founded and edited two geographical journals, Le Mouvement Géographique (1884–1922) and the shorter-lived Le Congo illustré (1891–1895), which supported projects for colonisation in Central Africa. Wauters died in Ixelles, Belgium, on 25 March 1916.

Brown decorated cloth with gilt lettering to spine and gilt steam boat illustration to front. Dark brown endpapers. Corners slightly bumped. Some minor handling marks to boards. Endpapers clean. No penned inscriptions. Some minor handling marks inside, pages are age-toned. Map shows wear, with large crossed tear and creases to folded edge, else a good clean and tight copy. With coloured fold out map at rear, and 34 full-page b/w plates including portraits. xvii,378 + advert catalogue, 20 x 14 cm. 67488949
