Copy offered by the artist Benn to President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, with shipment accompanied by a drawing with a dove and flowers signed, executed in colored pencils on the endpaper at the beginning.

First edition of this magnificent folio album comprising 60 compositions by Benn including 40 illustrations for the Psalms and 22 for other books of the Old Testament, including Genesis, Exodus, Samuel; Kings I&II, Ezekiel, Isaiah and Numbers. 2 plates per painting, the first in black line on a sea-green background, followed by a color reproduction on coated and glued paper. The illustration also includes a frontispiece-dedication to the portraits of Benn's parents.

Edition limited to 2000 copies, copy n° 499 on Sorel Moussel offset paper.

Book prefaced by Jules Romains.

Benn, pseudonym of Bençion Rabinowicz (1905-1989) French painter of Russian origin, attached to the School of Paris. Its production is greatly inspired by the Bible, in particular the Book of Psalms.
