EM3R, winner of the 2019 Issy Art Prize, is an artist born in 1994 who grew up in the suburbs of Paris and whose works are part of public and private collections around the world. From an early age, he was fascinated by the graffiti he saw during his daily train journeys. He cut his teeth for years in graffiti before taking an interest in calligraphy in 2017 and starting to study the old alphabets on his own.
It is the combination between the structured side of calligraphy and the spontaneous and ruleless side of graffiti that gave birth to EM3R's unique abstract calligraphy. Each of his works is a different written expression, never identical, which encourages reflection on the nature of expression itself.
