First Edition. Very good copy bound in contemporary gilt-blocked leather-backed boards and gilt-decorated spine compartments. Nice colorfull cover -as good as new.
Marbled end papers. Many pages/plates with foxing (as usual in this book)
Remains quite well preserved. Binding perfect.

Physical description: (viii). 572 pages. 28 full-page 'Gravures sur Acier' (all pictured!) and the astonishing number of 366 Wood very various attractive engravings and some engraved maps - all superb detailed. Roman typescript in French. After 180 years an excellent crisp and clean copy!

Christopher Wordsworth (30 October 1807 - 20 March 1885) was an English bishop in the Anglican Church and man of letters. After a brilliant school and academic career, he became senior classic, and was elected a fellow and tutor of Trinity in 1830 and shortly afterwards it took holy orders.
In 1832 - 1833 he traveled in Greece, and published various works on its topography and archeology -the most famous of which is the one entitled GREECE: pictorial, descriptive and historical (1839), here in the French translation.
