MooN grand perpetual - Galaxy
In the 16th century, Italian monks together with alchemists are said to have created the river of gold (Goldstone) on behalf of the Pope to produce a gemstone that connects heaven and earth. Its name derives from the fact that it glitters like gold and begins to flow at high temperatures. The recipe by which the gold river is made is still a secret to this day. For us, the Goldstone was the perfect starting material for the Galaxy & Signs of Zodiac dials. Even if the processing of the glass-like material turned out to be very difficult and complex, we are proud that we have created a unique watch that connects heaven and earth.
The MooN is a superlative mechanical high-tech moon phase watch with a photo-realistic representation of the moon cycles for the northern and southern hemispheres of the earth and a maximum deviation of one day in 122.5 years. The orbital period of our satellite is 27.3217 days according to sidereal calculations and about 29.53 days according to the synodic period. Simple moon phase watches calculate the lunar cycle as 27.5 days. In order to display the phases of the moon accurately over the years on a clock, a complicated gear train is required. Analogous to the daily shift of the moonrise by about 50 minutes, the ebb and flow also occur daily by about 50 minutes later. Spring tides at full and new moon illustrate the powerful influence of the celestial moon on any water balance here on earth. The phases of the moon therefore have a lasting influence on our lives. However, we modern people are so far removed from the natural rhythm of light and tides that we need a moon phase watch to be aware of the current position of the moon. Moon phase watches and moon calendars have recently experienced a tremendous renaissance. However, the shortcoming of most moon phase watches is their inaccuracy, only a few very expensive specimens maintain their accuracy for decades. The moon cycles have always been a topic at Schaumburg Watch: Our declared goal was to integrate a moon phase display that is as realistic as possible and that works as precisely as possible in a wristwatch. At 13.4 mm, the photorealistic representation of the MooN is probably the world's largest moon phase display in an automatic watch. It is not the representation of the moon itself that moves, but a simulation of the shadow of the earth. In this way, the moon remains visible on the dial at new moon, just like on a starry night. When the moon is full, the small moon on the watch shines like its big role model thanks to Superluminova luminous material.
Another superlative designed by Schaumburg Watch is the option of delivering the MooN with a clockwise or counterclockwise moon phase for the northern or southern hemisphere of the earth. This in-house development is based on a new type of change gear train, which enables the moon phase to be delivered to the left or right depending on the degree of latitude. Another highlight is the almost absolute accuracy of the moon phase display: Only in 122.5 years does the displayed moon cycle deviate by just a single day. Setting the moon phase on the dial to the minute was just as important to us as the accuracy of the display over decades. The correction pusher at 8 o'clock allows a minute rotation of the earth's shadow over the moon, so that a full moon can be set exactly at 10:05 p.m., for example. Instead of a standard case, we have given such ingenious clockwork technology a steel case that is suitable for everyday use and whose attractive shape alone is a source of enthusiasm. The 43mm large and very solid case tapers downwards and has particularly elegant lugs for 22mm straps. As a special highlight, we designed the bezel in the shape of a crescent moon, which significantly reduces its susceptibility to scratches. The shape of the lugs is also very individual and increases the recognition value of the equally sporty and elegant watch in its current size.
