Omega watch company was founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt.
He established his watchmaking business in La Chaux-de-Fonds under the name La Generale Watch Co.
In 1903, he added the name Omega, changing the company's name to Louis Brandt et Frère—Omega Watch & Co.
The Omega SA Museum in Biel/Bienne first opened to the public and formally changed the company's name to Omega in 1984. Omega is a Swatch Group brand. Omega watches were first issued to British Royal Flying Corps pilots in 1917, then to the U.S. Army in 1918, and finally to NASA for the Apollo 11 mission in 1969.
